De hulpkoppelingscilinder bevindt zich of op de versnellingsbak of in het druklager in het koppelingshuis. Deze cilinder wordt gestuurd door de hoofdkoppelingscilinder met als doel de koppeling vrij te krijgen van het vliegwiel en de drukgroep. Ook deze koppeling kan lek raken en zijn druk kwijtraken.
